Preventing Violent Extremism: A Localized Approach

Our PVE Plan focuses on addressing the root causes of radicalisation by strengthening local leadership, enhancing community dialogue, and improving coordination among key actors. By empowering communities through grassroots engagement and capacity building, we create inclusive environments that foster trust, resilience, and peace. The plan is built on collaboration with educators, youth, families, and civil society, all working toward a shared goal: preventing extremism before it takes root.

From Strategy to Action

Preventing violent extremism requires more than just awareness, it demands action. Through workshops, trainings, and community initiatives, our PVE Plan helps local actors identify early warning signs, develop intervention strategies, and promote moderate narratives. By shifting from reactive to proactive solutions, we ensure that communities are equipped to prevent violence and protect vulnerable youth before they are drawn into harmful ideologies.

Collaboration at the Core

At the heart of the PVE Plan are local actors teachers, parents, youth leaders, and government representatives working together to build safer communities. By creating local PVE committees and offering practical tools like referral systems and resilience-building workshops, we enable sustained collaboration that extends far beyond a single project. It’s about empowering those closest to the challenge to lead the change.

The Three Local Committees

Ranya
Committee

In Ranya, the PVE committee has become a trusted local structure for preventing radicalisation. Bringing together schools, security actors, community leaders, and youth representatives, the committee works to identify early risks and respond through non-punitive interventions. Their efforts have fostered better cooperation among institutions and improved pathways for youth support.

Chamchamal
Committee

The Chamchamal PVE committee plays a proactive role in preventing extremism through community awareness and direct youth engagement. Known for its inclusive approach, the committee has strengthened ties between families, educators, and mental health professionals, creating a circle of support that addresses the emotional and social drivers of radicalisation.

Halabja
Committee

Halabja’s PVE committee has made significant strides in local prevention strategies, particularly in schools and rural areas. By leading dialogue sessions, promoting moderate religious discourse, and supporting at-risk youth, the committee contributes to a safer and more connected community. Their collaborative model is now being looked at as a best practice across the region.
